When Vanderlande wanted to elevate their sustainability reporting, they chose Koan due to our reputation for producing best-practice sustainability reports and our expertise with regulatory frameworks. Wanting to take their sustainability reporting to the next level, they engaged us for structuring, copywriting, designing, and ensuring the report was ready for ESRS compliance.

The Challenge

Vanderlande needed a best-in-class report that effectively communicated their sustainability strategy, performance, and compliance with emerging regulations. They wanted a visually appealing and well-structured report that captured their strategy and progress while balancing the challenges of upcoming reporting regulations, such as the CSRD. 

Our Approach

We began by immersing ourselves in Vanderlande’s sustainability strategy. Understanding what drives Vanderlande to progress in sustainability and their commitment to this.

We structured the report into five main sections: an overview of Vanderlande’s operations, their sustainability strategy, and then detailed performance metrics - under Environmental, Social and Governance themes. This clear organisation made the report accessible and informative for a broader group of stakeholders.

Key elements:

• Structure and copywriting: We used Vanderlande's data, documentation and conducted interviews to create a coherent and concise narrative. Our goal was to clearly communicate their sustainability performance and ambitions

• Design and layout: We designed a visually engaging report that aligns with Vanderlande’s brand. The layout included custom illustrations, infographics, charts, and images to make complex data easily understandable

• Compliance preparation: We ensured the report met the latest standards issued by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and took Vanderlande a step closer to the EU’s Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)

• Communications support: At the report's launch, we drafted a press release and social posts to highlight key features of their sustainability story - helping activate the report.
